Carla ran away from home with great plans. She wants to go to Lyon to study fashion. At the train station in Berlin however, all her luggage is stolen and she has to stick with Rico who offers her a job on his construction site so she can earn money to finance her journey. On the same construction site, Lucie lives with her brother Michael in a boat. The boat is her home, this is where she feels fine, like she has a family. Things take a sour turn when, with almost enough money to leave for Lyon, Carla finds out she is pregnant from a reluctant one night stand with Rico. Too late for abortion, a despairing Carla is saved by Lucie who hatches a plan. Carla will pose as Lucie, and under German welfare laws they ll be able to get an apartment financed by the state, which they can share along with the baby and Lucie s brother Michael. This way, Carla will be able to leave the baby with Lucie who wants to take care of it, and go her own way. It is in this new apartment that love, jealousy, desperation and hope will flourish. Nothing Else Matters is a tender movie about having a place in the world. It is also a slow-burning and realistic film about the ways we love, and don t know about. It is about friendship, love and then longing, and the people we want to spend the rest of our lives with.
