Anna Hallgrimsdottir lives in Reykjavik with her two sons. Fed up with the coldness of Iceland, she decides to sell her business to move out of the country. Her business, selling dope, is prosperous and she wants a good price out of it. The dealer whom she ll hand it over to (along with her mobile, that s how the customers reach her) tells her he ll have the money within 48 hours. Meanwhile, Anna gets involved in all kinds of familial adventures and her kitchen fills up with customers/friends, partying, while waiting for her to come back, and sell them their grass. As intended, Back Soon is a vibrant and -in Anspach s words- open film: one that could contain the craziness and humor of each of its characters. Music plays a very important role: Didda Jonsdottir who plays the main character is an Icelandic poet and a rocker who wrote poems and a song for the film Hjalmar (an Icelandic reggae band) worked in close collaboration with Martin Wheeler who composes most of Anspach s soundtracks. The good vibe one gets while watching and maintains long after having left the theater comes from the personal touch that each character is encouraged to bring to the set. Altogether the film is like a surprising gift you will treasure for a while to come.
