1994, New York. Hip hop ritimleri ile titreşen bir şehir, evsizler ve suç ile mücadeleye tartışmalı yöntemlerle yaklaşan yeni belediye başkanı Rudy Giuliani. Luke liseden yeni mezun olmuştur. New York City, 1994 a city pulsing with hip hop, whose new mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is using controversial methods to address homelessness and crime. The Wackness tells the story of a troubled teenage pot dealer, trying to figure out how to solve his parents bankruptcy, beat depression and get laid before the summer is over and he goes off to college. His unlikely cohort in this quest is Dr Squires, a desperately unhappy Manhattan psychiatrist who trades him therapy sessions for weed. The pair embark on a New York adventure but the heat cranks up a notch when Luke falls for Squires step-daughter. The Wackness is a moving coming-of-age story laced with humor, pathos, sex, drugs and beats. It s also a story about a moment in a city s life: A time of pagers, not cell phones, when Tupac and Biggie were alive, Kurt Cobain had only recently committed suicide, and New York was still rebel capital of the world.
